Time for an update!  This past weekend I participated in my third Art Fight, a monthly local art contest/showcase which pits local artist against each other, painting live with a 3 hour window, with the subject determined by the theme of that particular show.  The crowd votes by placing a ticket (which each person gets for each drink purchased) into the cup of whose work they like the best.  Art Fights take place at Tractor Brewing, the Wells Park location, with the event run by James Montoya.

My first Art Fight’s theme was Hip Hop and Hops.  Was a eye opening experience, with me realizing I needed to paint much faster and to have a not as complicated idea to increase my chances of finishing to my satisfaction.

The theme of second Art Fight I participated in was Lucky of the Draw, where each artist pulled a random theme out of a hat.  I luckily pulled He-Man, so of course I painted Skeletor and was able to get third place.

My third Art Fight’s theme was Fight Against Brest Cancer.  Half of the proceeds of each painting auctioned off at the end of the night went towards the Susan G Komen Foundation.  This night, I won first place!  I’m getting more comfortable painting in public and honing my style in painting faster.  Can’t wait for the next Art Fight.

Albuquerque Comic Con 2015 and Online SALE!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

Finally getting around to my post Albuquerque Comic Con 2015 update!

This was my first experience having a booth at any type of event like this, so I had no idea what to expect.  My friend Joe Baca and I decided to share a booth under the name Monsters, Moustaches, & Mayhem.

Amanda helped out every day, and dressed up two of the days!  It rubbed off on me and I decided to break out the Frank the Bunny costume my wife and I had made for Halloween several years back.

The Provocateurs (Zukie Vs The World)

Saturday, July 21st, 2012

I had the honor of being invited by Ms. Zukie (Alison Perez) to participate in the Zukie Vs. The World show. The Zukie is Alison’s new do-it-yourself (DIY) vinyl platform, and for this show many very talented artists (and then me) were asked to take the Zukie and put our own spin on it.  This will be the second time that I will have something on display at ToyTokyo’s TTUnderground this year (the other being my custom Outer Space Men).

Panda-Robot Alibi review

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Some of my art (a painting, two dreamscapes, and some custom vinyl toys) are currently on display and are for sale at the store/gallery Panda-Robot here in Albuquerque.  In this week’s Alibi (local weekly alternative newspaper, alibi.com), Panda-Robot is reviewed, and in this review, images of my art make an appearance.  The printed version displays my glow in the dark Munny “Skull Drip”, attributed to Al Armenta.  I think they got thrown off by my art alias of alarment, but hey, at least they spelled Armenta correct, and some have refered to me as Al.  Could be worse .  It could have said “by Al Arment” 🙂    The online version also has an image of my Dunny “Succumb”, but without any information like title/artist attached to it.  My art and/or name has shown up on web advertisements/announcements for other shows I have participated in, but I believe this is the first time in the printed news media.  Just feeling a little proud…

Season’s Greetings…

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Another holiday, another new piece of art.  Previously, I posted a work in progress picture of a custom Mighty Mugg I was working on for the Cellar Door Gifts & Gallery.  Well the piece is complete and was accepted into their juried show “Unhappy Holidays”.  The exhibit opening will be taking place Friday, December 10 7:00pm – 9:00pm.  If you have a chance, you should check out the show, along with all of the other cool pieces and dark items for sale (I just went by today to make my drop off, and have to say the store is pretty cool).

So here he is,  Edward the Undead Elf…
