Time for an update!  This past weekend I participated in my third Art Fight, a monthly local art contest/showcase which pits local artist against each other, painting live with a 3 hour window, with the subject determined by the theme of that particular show.  The crowd votes by placing a ticket (which each person gets for each drink purchased) into the cup of whose work they like the best.  Art Fights take place at Tractor Brewing, the Wells Park location, with the event run by James Montoya.

My first Art Fight’s theme was Hip Hop and Hops.  Was a eye opening experience, with me realizing I needed to paint much faster and to have a not as complicated idea to increase my chances of finishing to my satisfaction.

The theme of second Art Fight I participated in was Lucky of the Draw, where each artist pulled a random theme out of a hat.  I luckily pulled He-Man, so of course I painted Skeletor and was able to get third place.

My third Art Fight’s theme was Fight Against Brest Cancer.  Half of the proceeds of each painting auctioned off at the end of the night went towards the Susan G Komen Foundation.  This night, I won first place!  I’m getting more comfortable painting in public and honing my style in painting faster.  Can’t wait for the next Art Fight.

Albuquerque Comic Con 2015 and Online SALE!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

Finally getting around to my post Albuquerque Comic Con 2015 update!

This was my first experience having a booth at any type of event like this, so I had no idea what to expect.  My friend Joe Baca and I decided to share a booth under the name Monsters, Moustaches, & Mayhem.

Amanda helped out every day, and dressed up two of the days!  It rubbed off on me and I decided to break out the Frank the Bunny costume my wife and I had made for Halloween several years back.

So now its time to try and unload some of the post Comic Con overstock.  I am offering a sale at my online store alarment.storenvy.com

Use the promo code abqcon to receive 10% off your order.  This promotion will be available till the end of March.

so behind… (La Belleza, Outer Space Men, M’Ickey)

Friday, March 9th, 2012

I really hate doing this, lumping together several different works into one post.  I keep finding that I forget to update here with each new project completed.  Bad updater…

If you want more real-time artwork updates, come be my friend or be a fan on Facebook:

Anyways.. it has been a busy 2012 so far for me art-wise.  Three shows in three months, and for each of these shows only  a couple weeks (or less) to prepare a piece for each.

I already posted about the first show, Kickflip (see here).  Originally, I was going to submit two pieces, but already found a buyer for one of the decks, so it didn’t make it to the show.

This skateboard deck is titled “La Belleza”.

I then found out about another show that was happening in February that I wanted to participate in.  The show is called Toypocalypse 2: Futuretro and was held at the TT Underground Showroom in NYC.

Found out about this show very late, and after getting my hands on some Outer Space Men, I had about a week to get them done.

For some images from the show, click here.

And again, found out about another showcaswe (Play Imaginative x Disney) very late in the game.  After seeing what my fellow customizes where doing with this blank Mickey, I knew I wanted to be part of this as well.

So I came up with M’Ickey

La Tristeza

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Right before the end of the year, I got back into a painting mood.  This mood change was prompted by the deadline of an upcoming show.

The show I was working toward is Kickflip at the Rendition Gallery in Fort Collins, CO.  The theme of the show as told by Rendition Gallery “An art exhibit themed on skateboards and shoes. Paintings, drawings, mixed media, and photography will be on display. Lots of hand painted skateboard decks will grace our walls.”

A few years ago I had ordered some blank decks, but the opportunity to work on them had never arisen before.  I stared worked on two decks, and regularly posted work-in-progress shots to my Facebook pages (Allan’s page and Alarment.com’s page) and got lots of positive feedback.  So much so that one of the decks sold before being completed while a third was commission in a similar style by an artist friend.  So I only ended up competing one skateboard deck to be included in the show.  It is titled La Tristeza, and can be seen below.  I will post more images of the other decks when they are done.  Again, my Facebook pages are the best way to follow my progress on uncompleted works.

The show opens Friday, January 6 and runs to January 27.  If you are in the area, stop by and see my deck along with the works of many other talented artists.

Halloween…

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

So it is almost Halloween, and this year I was given the task a few weeks ago of painting some blank masks by my mother-in-law for her team to wear at work.  I was given no real direction other than make them look “scary” and keep it simple (since she knows how involved I can get).  Well, things of the macabre nature is right up my alley, so I said yes.  But I also knew that in regards to how I normally work (I can never keep it simple), it was going to be cutting it close to get them completed in time.  So I decided to limit my palette to just black paint and also not to sketch any thing out, but rather just start applying the paint to the masks and see what happens.  The following six masks are what I came up with, enjoy…
